The Modern Cataract Surgery Master Class provides comprehensive phacoemulsification training and premium IOL expertise through five progressive modules covering fundamentals, advanced techniques, challenging cases, presbyopia-correcting IOLs, and IOL fixation techniques. Master capsulorhexis, nucleus division, toric and trifocal IOLs, and advanced fixation methods through 52 CPD-accredited hours with internationally recognized faculty.
Module 1
Basics and Fundamentals
An intensive course designed to build your cataract surgery skills from the ground up—covering phaco basics, capsulorhexis, power and fluidics control, OVD strategies, nucleus division, IOL implantation, and first-case preparation—then advancing to efficient chopping techniques for harder lenses.

Module 2
Building the Skills
The attendee will learn advanced techniques in Phacoemulsification and how to adjust machine settings accordingly. They will also accept the skills in managing the incidence of open posterior capsule and adjusting vitrectomy settings.
In addition, they will learn how to differentiate and manage the most important early postoperative complications: the toxic anterior segment syndrome (TASS) and endophthalmitis.
The audience will have access to the session recordings to watch at their own pace until July 7, 2026.
The audience will have the opportunity for ongoing discussion with Prof. Assaf in a private Module 2 Telegram Group.

Module 3
Advanced & Challenging Situations
This module will discuss managing cataracts in challenging situations. The attendee will learn tips to manage cataracts in challenging scenarios like small pupils, rock-hard cataracts, white cataracts, cataracts with zonular weakness, including trauma, and many more. Biometry in usual and unusual conditions like keratoconus and post-laser vision correction will be covered. In addition, the course will discuss the applications of femtosecond lasers in cataract surgery and new devices to perform rhexis and mechanical disassembly of the nucleus for safer phacoemulsification in particular situations.

Module 4
Premium IOLs Management of Astigmatism
In this module, the optical principles of the current different presbyopia-correcting IOLs will be covered in detail. The attendee will learn how to choose the presbyopia-correcting IOLs for the right patient in a systematic way. With the increasing global demands for spectacle independence, the candidate will learn tips and surgical plans with toric, trifocal, and extended depth of focus IOLs.

Module 5
Advanced IOL Fixation Techniques Traumatic Cataract
This is the most advanced module. It covers two important topics: advanced IOL fixation techniques and the management of traumatic cataracts. All IOL fixation techniques will be discussed, including iris-claw, Carlevale, Glued, Intrascleral haptic fixation, and Flanged fixation techniques. In the traumatic part, the audience will learn the management of subluxated traumatic cataracts, pupilloplasty and iridoplasty, and artificial iris.
