Abubaker Affan

Abubaker Affan is director of paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus services at Tripoli Eye Hospital, Tripoli, Libya, a post held since 2019, and a lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Tripoli. Training includes an MBChB in Benghazi (1998), the Libyan Board of Ophthalmology residency at Tripoli Eye Hospital (2001 to 2006) and a paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus fellowship at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA (2009 to 2011). Earlier posts include head of the ophthalmology department at Omar Al-Mukhtar University in Derna (2013 to 2018) and director of the Libyan Board of Ophthalmology skills transfer training programme (2019 to 2023). Interests include Duane syndrome, heavy eye syndrome, accommodative esotropia and paediatric eye trauma. Dr. Affan is a founding member of the Libyan Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and a member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
