Chandrashekhar Chavan

Chandrashekhar Chawan is an optometrist and ocularist and the founder and clinical director of Shekhar Eye Research in Thane, Maharashtra, India, a centre for keratoconus care, scleral lenses, orthokeratology, myopia control and custom ocular prostheses. He holds a PhD in physics from the University of Mumbai, trained in optometry at the Municipal Eye Hospital, Mumbai, and was Chief Optometrist and Contact Lens Specialist at Bombay Hospital. He trained in ocular prosthesis at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, in 1996, and in 2003 was the first fellow of the Johnson & Johnson Gift of Sight International Fellowship at the Boston Foundation for Sight. After returning to India he trained ocularists and helped set up ocular prosthesis units at institutions including Sankara Nethralaya, L V Prasad Eye Institute and Narayana Nethralaya. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and of the Scleral Lens Education Society.
