Cosimo Mazzotta

Cosimo Mazzotta is an ophthalmologist and the founder and head of the Siena Crosslinking Center, Siena, Italy. He is affiliated with the Department of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Enna "Kore" and is Professor of Corneal Pathology at the Postgraduate Ophthalmology Specialty School of the University of Siena. His work centres on keratoconus and corneal ectasia. He introduced corneal cross-linking (CXL) therapy in Italy and has developed basic and advanced cross-linking protocols; recent studies include accelerated epithelium-on cross-linking for progressive keratoconus. At ESCRS 2019 in Paris he received the Keratoconus Joseph Colin Prize for his M nomogram for treating ectatic corneas of all thicknesses, including thin corneas. He co-edited, with Ashraf Armia, the Springer book Keratoconus: Current and Future State-of-the-Art, and he is a co-founder of the International Keratoconus Society (IKS).
