Pooja Khamar

Pooja Khamar is a consultant and lead trainer in cataract and refractive services at Narayana Nethralaya Eye Institute, Bengaluru, India. She completed a Master of Surgery in ophthalmology at Smt. NHL Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad, followed by the Cataract, Cornea, Optics and Refractive Excellence (CORE) fellowship at Narayana Nethralaya. In 2019 she received a PhD from Maastricht University, the Netherlands, for a thesis on the clinical, molecular and biomechanical outcomes of SMILE and other refractive surgery techniques. Her research looks at refractive surgery outcomes and keratoconus from molecular and imaging perspectives, and also covers phakic intraocular lenses, customised laser treatments, optics and dry eye. She received the 2020 Richard C. Troutman, MD, DSc (Hon) Prize of the International Society of Refractive Surgery and was named among the Rising Stars of The Ophthalmologist Power List in 2024.
