Somar Hasan

Somar Hasan is Leitender Oberarzt (senior consultant) and Deputy Clinic Director of the Eye Clinic at Universitätsmedizin Mannheim, Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University, Mannheim, Germany, where he specialises in glaucoma. He holds the German postdoctoral title Privatdozent and is a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). He has been a specialist ophthalmologist since 2017, worked earlier at Al-Mouassat University Hospital, Damascus University, and joined Mannheim from Jena University Hospital in 2024. His surgical work includes glaucoma surgery, from minimally invasive angle and suprachoroidal procedures to drainage implants, as well as complex cataract, corneal and vitreoretinal surgery. His research includes bleb morphology on anterior segment OCT after PRESERFLO MicroShunt, XEN gel stent and trabeculectomy, retinal oxygen saturation and optic disc perfusion in glaucoma, and fluorescence lifetime imaging in age-related macular degeneration.
