Tarek Sharaawy

Tarek Shaarawy is an ophthalmologist and glaucoma surgeon in Geneva, Switzerland. He obtained his medical degree and a master's degree in ophthalmology at Cairo University, trained at the Research Institute of Ophthalmology in Cairo, earned his doctorate in medicine at the University of Lausanne and completed glaucoma fellowships at the Universities of Lausanne and Basel. He has headed the Glaucoma Unit and the glaucoma surgery research group at the University of Geneva Hospitals and has been a Privat-Docent of the University of Geneva. He has been President of the International Society of Glaucoma Surgery and an associate vice president of the World Glaucoma Association. His research focuses on glaucoma surgical techniques, normal pressure glaucoma and glaucoma practice patterns in developed and developing countries. He has written and edited glaucoma textbooks, has served on several journal editorial boards and has worked with NGOs on blindness prevention.
